Meet The Doctor
Hello and Welcome to American Veterinary Hospital.
My name is Dr. Shahid Chughtai and I am the Medical Director here AVH. I take great pride in you allowing me to care for your 4 -legged companion. Working with a knowledgeable, well trained and compassionate staff we strive to provide the very best in medical care and client communications possible. Entrusting your companion to me is a big deal and to help you get a feel for who I am please allow me give you some background.
Veterinary medicine has been in my family for years. My father was a veterinarian. Prior to his retirement, he offered outstanding guidance as both my brother and I decided to follow in his footsteps. My brother-in law also practices veterinary medicine as well as my wife! I have 2 beautiful daughters and 1 very intelligent son plus 2 cats. In fact you may see Sanchez and Carlos while visiting since they reside here at AVH. I completed my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine overseas in 1981 and began working as a Large Animal Veterinarian specializing in Cow Artificial Insemination. By 1985 I was working as a meat inspector while beginning my journey to getting my Masters. In 1987, with honors, I completed my Master of Clinical Medicine and Surgery Degree.
Shortly after moving to the US in 1991 I started working in a Small Animal Practice. As my passion grew for our furry companions and the connection they had with their owners, I decided it was time to open my own practice. February of 1993 I opened the doors to a very welcoming community in Franklin, WI. Working with owners and their pets is extremely rewarding and though continuing education I strive to achieve the highest standards possible in veterinary care. I am trained in Orthozip Cruciate Ligaments repairs and take a real interest in soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries, such as Luxating Patella and Cruciate Ligament Repairs.
With over 38 years of practicing veterinary medicine I have learned no 2 pets are the same and promise to work with you to develop a treatment plan that personally fits your pets needs and lifestyle. My team and I are dedicated to being a respected resource for you and your companions well-being throughout their years and generations of family to come.
I personally Thank You for choosing American Veterinary Hospital.
”I am very impressed with the staff at American Veterinary Hospital. They were very gentle and caring toward my scared 13 year old cat who hasn't been to a vet since she was a kitten. The doctor was informative and took the time to explain the diagnosis and carefully explained the use and directions for each medication. I am looking forward to seeing them all again at Star's 30 day check up.Ariel Mallas
